Privacy Policy

The short version
Tame Tabs does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data, browsing history, tab contents, or any other user information. All workspace and tab data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs. We have no servers that receive your data, no analytics, and no tracking.
What data we do NOT collect
Tame Tabs does not collect any of the following — now or in the future:
- Personally identifiable information — names, addresses, email addresses, age, or identification numbers
- Health information — heart rate data, medical history, symptoms, diagnoses, or procedures
- Financial and payment information — transactions, credit card numbers, credit ratings, financial statements, or payment history
- Authentication information — passwords, credentials, security questions, or PINs
- Personal communications — emails, texts, or chat messages
- Location — region, IP address, GPS coordinates, or information about things near your device
- Web history — the list of web pages you have visited, page titles, or time of visit
- User activity — network monitoring, clicks, mouse position, scroll, or keystroke logging
- Website content — text, images, sounds, videos, or hyperlinks from the pages you visit
How the extension works
Tame Tabs organizes your browser tabs into workspaces. All workspace data — including tab URLs, titles, favicons, and group information — is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to any server.
Single network request: license key validation
The only network request the extension ever makes is to validate a license key when you upgrade to Pro. This request is sent to https://tametabs.com/api/v1/validate and contains only the license key string. No device identifiers, no user data, no tab information, no browsing history — just the key.
This request occurs:
- When you enter a license key
- On extension install (if a key was previously stored)
- On browser startup (if a key exists)
- Once every 24 hours for re-validation (one request per day maximum)
Chrome permissions
Tame Tabs requests only the permissions necessary for its core functionality:
- tabs — to read and manage your open tabs for workspace switching
- tabGroups — to preserve Chrome tab groups across workspaces
- storage — to save workspace data locally on your device
- contextMenus — to provide right-click options for moving tabs between workspaces
- host_permissions (tametabs.com) — solely for license key validation
Chrome enforces that the extension can only contact tametabs.com. No other outbound network requests are possible. A Content Security Policy provides an additional layer of defense-in-depth restriction on network access.
Data use certifications
We certify the following:
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, outside of the approved use cases
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes that are unrelated to the extension's single purpose of tab organization
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes
Third-party services
The Tame Tabs website uses Stripe for payment processing when you purchase a Pro license. Stripe handles all payment information directly — we never see or store your credit card details. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
Payment processing occurs entirely on the tametabs.com website, not within the Chrome extension. The extension itself has no interaction with Stripe or any payment service.
Data retention
Since we don't collect user data, there is nothing to retain. Your workspace data exists only in your browser's local storage and is under your complete control. You can clear it at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing browser data.
If you purchase a Pro license, we store only your license key and Stripe subscription identifier in our database for the purpose of validating your subscription status. No personal information from your browser is ever stored.
Children's privacy
Tame Tabs does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected, no special provisions are necessary.
Changes to this policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Given our commitment to not collecting data, we do not anticipate significant changes.
